Hugh McCAHILL, b. 1827 Cavan, Ireland, d. 1869, Carapook, Victoria son of Michael & Susan McCAHILL was probaly transported as a convict to Tasmania in 1841 on the ship "Richard Webb". He came over to Portland where he was a butcher before 1851. He married Mary KENNY from Sheffield, Yorkshire in 1851.
In 1875 Mary McCAHILL of Carapook, 3 school-aged children, living 1 mile SW of Carapook was one of the signatures to the 1875 petition aimed at establishing a new school at Carapook. This was probably Mary KENNY, widow of Hugh McCAHILL who had died in 1869.
