John McDONALD, b. 1820, Nairn, Scotland, son of George McDONALD and Christina McQUEEN was marked on the Carapook School map with 1 school-aged child, living 1 mile SW of Carapook but was not one of the signatures to the 1875 petition aimed at establishing a new school at Carapook. This would have been John McDONALD of "Bella Vista", head teacher of Coleraine State School and Norman McDONALD would have been the one child.

  1. John 'Jack' McDONALD b. 1860, Coleraine, d. 1939, served in the Boer War with the New Zealand Contingent with rank of Capt. Known as "Captain Jack". Single, lived with brother Norman at "Bella Vista".

  2. Christina Jamesina McDONALD b. 1866, Coleraine, m. 1890, William McDONALD, b. 1860 Fryers Creek, Vic, son of James Philip Augustus McDONALD and Frances FAWCITT. This couple went to Oamaru, New Zealand. A daughter married ___ HENTON.

  3. George William McDONALD [OBE] b. 1870, Coleraine

  4. Major Norman McDONALD b. 1872, Coleraine, d. 1957, Casterton. Served with the 1st AIF, landed Gallipoli "ANZAC Day" with rank of Capt, with the 2nd Brigarde, AIF, promoted to Major in France, local farmer "Bella Vista" and the local Veterinary Surgeon known fondly by the locals as "The Major". Single.
