John CLARKE 1859-1896, b. Portland, S-W Victoria to William CLARKE and Mary Susanna (Louisa?) MASON was married in 1880, Casterton, S-W Victoria to Mary Tremain WHITE (aka TREMAIN) 1861-1931, b. "Binnum Binnum" Station, South Australia daughter of Thomas TREMAIN and Maria BRENNAN and sister of Thomas Tremain WHITE 1856-1931.
NOTE : There appears to be confusion over the name of John's wife, Mary, at various times she is named Mary TREMAIN, Mary WHITE or Mary Tremain WHITE.
John CLARKE and family appears to have lived near Carapook & Sandford, S-W Victoria and two of their sons are recorded on the Carapook WW1 Honour Roll. John CLARK gave his address as Carapook in 1884 when his daughter Elizabeth was born.
John CLARKE's death was registered at Sandford in 1896 and he was buried in the Sandford Cemetery. It appears that his widow Mary had another child, Catherine CLARKE born at Sandford in 1902. Her death was recorded at Hamilton, S-W Victoria in 1931.
His son John James CLARKE 1886-1968 was the head farming man for a lengthy period on "Muntham" station prior to enlisting in the AIF in 1916.
