James de Vere ALLEN 1855-1909, b. Burnham, Somersetshire, England, son of John ALLEN and Elizabeth CROSS was married in 1889, St Kilda, Victoria to Adelaine Florence GURNER 1863-1930, b. St Kilda, Victoria, daughter of Henry Field GURNER and Augusta Mary CURR. James de Vere ALLEN and family appear to have arrived in the Digby area c.1904 and farmed the property, "Stokesdale" near Digby, where James died in 1909, after a shooting accident, and was buried in the Digby Cemetery. His widow Adelaine died in 1930 at Caulfield, Victoria.

DIGBY, Tuesday.-Mr. J. De Vere Allen, of Stokesdale, met with a serious accident this morning. While passing through a gate, with the object of shooting parrots on his crop, he tripped, and, the gun striking a post exploded, the charge entering above Mr. Allen's ankle, completely shattering the foot. The injured limb was amputated by Drs. Morton and Deraven.

DIGBY, Thursday.-The gun accident which occurred on Tuesday to Mr. J. De Vere Allen, of Stokesdale, terminated fatally last night. The interment took place this afternoon, the Rev. M. C. James officiating.
The deceased was very popular. General sympathy is expressed for Mrs. Allen and family.
The deceased was out shooting on Tuesday, when he slipped and the gun exploded, the charge entering his foot, and shattering it to such an extent that it had to he amputated.
