John BEATON c.1815-1881, b. Isle of Skye, Inverness, Scotland, son of John BEATON & Christina MATHESON was married in 1836, Portree, Scotland to Isabella TURNER c.1821-1903, b. Isle of Skye, Inverness, Scotland, daughter of John TURNER and Jessie McNAB.

John & Isabella BEATON and four children - Christina, Archibald, Neil and Dugald emigrated under the HIES on the ship "Arabian", arriving at Portland, Victoria, Australia in September 1854. Two more children, Jessie and John were born after arrival in Victoria.

The family lived at "Cove" Station (Wimmera), Victoria; then Hotspur, S-W Victoria; then at "Fleming Springs" Konongwootong, north of Coleraine, Victoria.

John BEATON died at "Fleming Springs" north of Coleraine, Victoria in 1881 and his wife Isabella aslo died at "Fleming Springs" in 1903 and they are both buried in the Coleraine Cemetery.

John BEATON and Isabella TURNER had the following family:

3. Christina BEATON c.1843-1923, b. Isle of Skye, Scotland; d. Coleraine, Victoria; m. James SHAW 1843-1925, b. Geelong, Port Phillip (Victoria) to William SHAW and Mary JORDAN; 11 children.

4. Archibald BEATON c. 1846-1883, b. Isle of Skye, Scotland; d. Nareen, Victoria; m. 1881 to Eliza SMITH c.1860-1916, b. Sunbury, Victoria to Donald SMITH and Elizabeth "Betsy" GRANT; d. Melbourne, Victoria; 1 daughter.

5. Neil BEATON c.1849-1923, b. Isle of Skye, Scotland; d. Coleraine, Victoria; m. 1888 to Elizabeth Hannah MARSH 1864-1946, b. Coleraine, Victoria to William MARSH and Elizabeth Hannah TAYLOR; d. Coleraine, Victoria; 4 children.

6. Dugald BEATON c.1852-1924. b. Isle of Skye, Scotland; d. Glenelg River, Casterton, Victoria m. 1881 to Catherine SHAW 1858-1939. b. Hotspur, S-W Victoria to William SHAW and Mary JORDAN; d. Coleraine, Victoria; 6 children.

7. Jessie BEATON 1857-1936, b. 1857 "Cove" Station, Wimmera, Victoria; d. Coleraine, Victoria; m.1 1879 to John McVEAN 1847-1895, b. Argyllshire, Scotland to John McVEAN and Catherine GRAY; d. Coleraine, Victoria; 9 children; m.2 1901 to John McPHEE 1853-1931, b. Inverness-shire, Scotland to Alexander McPHEE and Sarah CAMERON; d. Hawkesdale, Victoria; 1 son.
