Henry BOLAM ~1823-? & Mary LOONEY ~1829-1910

Henry BOLAM b. ~1823, Kingston, Dorsetshire, England was married in 1850 in the parish of St Francis, Melbourne, Port Phillip District of NSW to Mary LOONEY, b. ~1829 Co Kilkenny, Ireland.

It appears likely that Henry BOLAM was a young convict transported to Van Diemen's Land in 1842 on the "Elphinstone" and received his certificate of freedom in 1847 from Point Puer. If this is the same person then he was born in Winterborne-Kingston, Dorsetshire, England where his father Henry BALLAM was a shoemaker and he had siblings named Daniel, William, Charles & Charlotte BALLAM.

Henry BOLAM was employed by Donald McKINNON on "Kangaroo" station, not far from Hotspur on the Smoky river in January 1859. One of their children died at Hotspur and was buried in the Hotspur cemetery in July 1859.

Henry BOLAM was prosecuted for stealing a number of horses early in 1859 with his trial conducted later in 1859 at Portland, S-W Victoria, after which he was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment with hard labour on the roads.
