Charles HISCOCK, who had been a mariner in the merchant service, and later a labourer, died in Stoford, Somersetshire in 1846, aged 77y. His 2nd wife Mary (nee COMPTON) who was also at Stoford for the 1841 Census, married again to a John GREEN in 1847, Yeovil, Somsersetshire. By 1851 John & Mary GREEN were in the same household at Yeovil, Somersetshire as Caroline HISCOCK, a house-servant, aged 18y........? (looking for information)

Emigration :

The three brothers, Henry HISCOCK, James HISCOCK & Edwin HISCOCK along with their families left Dorset, England and emigrated in the period 1854-6 and landed at Geelong or Portland on the southern coast of Victoria, Australia. Their sister Caroline HISCOCK remained in England as outlined above.

Henry and wife Sarah, with their three children, came to Australia as assisted immigrants on the "Arabian," sailing from Birkenhead on 29/09/1856, arriving at Geelong on 27/01/1857.

James and wife Jane came to Australia as assisted immigrants on the "Shand," sailing from Plymouth on 27/10/1854 and arriving at Portland on 25/01/1855.

Edwin and wife Elizabeth sailed from Birkenhead as assisted immigrants on 29/09/1856 and arrived in Geelong on 27/01/1857, aboard the "Arabian." After settling in Hotspur where their 7 children were born, Edwin and Elizabeth moved north to the Gymbowen area to be with or near their son James in about 1894.

The three HISCOCK brothers and their families arrived in Victoria, Australia in 1855 & 1857. James and Edwin settled at Hotspur on the Crawford river in S-W Victoria and Henry settled near Geelong, on Port Phillip Bay, and later moved to Pyramid Hill in northern Victoria.

Henry HISCOCK of Pyramid Hill, Vic., died at Bendigo in 1893. His first wife Sarah HAYNE died at Geelong, Vic., in 1858 and his 2nd wife Mary DORRINGTON of Pyramid Hill, Vic., died at Bendigo in 1881.
