Murdoch McLEOD ~1800-bef 1854, and his wife Ann McLEAN ~1803- ? were employed by Mr Rainy at Hallaig, Isle of Raasay, Inverness-shire, Scotland before 1854. Murdoch appears to have died there between 1851 & 1854. Isle Raasay was cleared as a part of the Highland Clearances in 1854.

Ann McLEOD, along with 3 of her children, Archibald, Marion & Mary McLEOD as well as 2 nieces, Rachael & Mary McDONALD arrived on the "Edward Johnstone" at Portland Bay, S-W Victoria, Australia in 1854 from Liverpool, England under the Highlander and Islander Immigrataion Scheme (H.I.E.S.)

Archibald McLEOD, son of Ann was employed by Henry MONRO of "Crawford" Station in 1854 and his mother Ann, a domestic servant went with him to "Crawford" Station, near Hotspur, S-W Victoria.

Mary McLEOD, daughter of Ann was married in 1862 at "Kangaroo" Station (between Hotspur & Branxholme, S-W Victoria) to John BELL ~1830-1920, a sailor who deserted as one of a group of 7 from his barque "Fanny" at portland Bay in 1862. John & Mary BELL had at least 7 children at "Kangaroo" station and near Warrnambool, S-W Victoria from 1863 to 1875.

What became of Ann McLEOD (probable widow, aged 50y) after "Crawford" Station in 1854 ? It is possible she moved to the Warrnambool area of S-W Victoria where other family members later lived.
