Joseph SMITH b. 1824 Kirkintilloch, Dumbartonshire, Scotland, son of John SMITH & Marion ROSS was married in 1850, Dumbartonshire, Scotland to Elizabeth McNICOL b. c.1823 Glasgow, Scotland.

Joseph & Elizabeth SMITH and 1 year old Elizabeth SMITH arrived at Portland, S-W Victoria on the "Emma Eugenia" in July 1852.

They settled in the Hotspur, Digby, Condah area where more children were born.

Joseph SMITH and his wife Elizabeth, both died in Portland, Joseph in 1888 and Elizabeth in 1921, and are buried in the South Portland Cemetery.
