Patrick CLEARY b. c1852, Co Cork, Ireland, son of Jeremiah CLEARY and Johann SEXTON (or Joan LEIGH) was married in 1886, Co Cork, Ireland to Mary DEASY, b. 1858, Barryroe, Co Cork, Ireland, daughter of John DEASEY and Mary BRICKLEY.

Patrick, Mary and infant son Jeremiah CLEARY emigrated from Ireland to Victoria in 1887 and settled at Sandford, near Casterton in south-west Victoria where more children were born in the following years.

Two of their sons joined the AIF in WW1 and served overseas, with Jeremiah becoming a Soldier Settler on "Eldersie" Estate, Langkoop, west of Casterton after the War.

Patrick and Mary moved to Portland around 1929 where Patrick died in 1932. Mary died at Nazareth House, Ballarat in 1951, and they are both buried at South Portrland, Victoria.

  1. Jeremiah "Gerry" "Ger" CLEARY 1886-1967, b. Co Cork, Ireland; shearer and woolshed artist-illustrator in Victoria and South Australia; d. Portland, Victoria and buried in the South Portland Cemetery. He was a single, labourer, when he enlisted and served with the 39th Battalion, AIF in WW1. He became a Soldier Settler on "Elderslie" Estate at Langkoop, north-west of Casterton, Victoria; moved to Portland, Victoria and resided with his parents.
  2. John Michael CLEARY 1889-1987, b. Sandford, Victoria; d. Casterton, Victoria; m. 1926 to Mary Veronica DALEY 1899-1980, b. Casterton, Victoria to Joseph DALEY and Alice McEVOY; 3 children; d. Casterton, Victoria.
  3. William David CLEARY 1892-1985, b. Sandford, Victoria; d. Sydney, NSW; m. 1923 to Georgina Isabella SHAW 1889-1986, b. Casterton, Victoria to George SHAW and Isabella Margaret SCHULZE; 3 children; d. NSW.
  4. Francis Patrick CLEARY 1895-1982, b. Sandford, Victoria; enlisted in WW1 and WW2; d. Melbourne, Victoria; m. 1925 to Veronica Imelda SMITH 1901-1993; 3 children; d. Melbourne, Victoria.
