Stephen MAPLE b. 1844, Ickham, Kent, England son of Thomas MAPLE & Elizabeth ANSLEY was married in 1866 at Yankalilla, South Australia to Frances PEARCE, b. 1848, Cornwall, England, daughter of John PEARCE & Tabitha Page SCOTT.

Stephen & Frances MAPLE had some children in South Australia before moving to Sandford, Victoria in the early 1870s.

Two of their children died at Sandford in the 1870s.

Stephen MAPLE died in Sandford in 1904 and his widow Frances died in Melbourne in 1927.

   1. William DEWAR, b. 1893, Warracknabeal, Vic, d. 27 Feb 1917, France. William was killed in action in France during WW1. His name is listed on the Casterton War Memorial. He appears to have been killed during the "Big Raid" on German trenches conducted by a special raiding battalion comprising members of the both the 37th and 38th battalions of the AIF. The casualties were 5 officers and 131 men, of whom 18 were left in the German Iines. He has no known grave and his death is commemorated on the Australian National Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux, France, about 15 km east of Amiens.
