The next child Catherine's birth was registered in Portland in 1852. The birth of Catherine and the family's arrival are mentioned in the 1934 obituary of Catherine BURKE (nee DOYLE) as follows...

Obituary. The death occurred at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. James O'Brien, at Merino on Sunday last, of Mrs. Catherine Burke, widow of the late Mr. Patrick Burke. Deceased was the daughter of the late James and Alice Doyle, and was born aboard ship in Portland Bay just prior to her parents landing after arriving in Australian waters. After residing at Portland for a very short time, her parents travelled per bullock waggon to Nangeela station, Casterton, where her father was employed. He afterwards selected land near Merino, and on the Wannon River. Deceased attended the Merino school when the building was an old bark hut situated at the back of where Mr. H. Kohn now resides. The only surviving district pupils who attended the school at this time are Mr. T. D. Clarke and Mr. James Boyd, who both still reside in the Merino district. When deceased grew up she was married to Mr. Patrick Burke, whom she survived by about 40 years.
