Charles HUMPHRIES was born in 1815, Gloucestershire, England, son of Charles HUMPHRIES and Ann DITCOAT. In 1845 at Cheltenham, Gloucestershire he married Caroline SAMPSON, born 1828 Gloucestershire, daughter of Francis SAMPSON and Mary HUMPHRIES.

They had four children in England and emigrated, arriving at Portland, Victoria in 1853 on the "Ann Milne".

Additional children were born at Portland before they settled at Gum Creek, Henty (nr Sandford), Victoria where the last of their children were born.

Charles HUMPHRIES died in 1898 and Caroline in 1912 and both are buried in the Sandford Cemetery.
